“I.S.H.R.A.B. Announces 2018 Historical Records Grant Program” by S.M. O’Connor

Using funds from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (N.H.P.R.C.), the Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board (I.S.H.R.A.B.) is offering grants of up to $5,000 to keepers of historical records in Illinois “to develop and/or carry out projects that show commitment to developing and/or implementing projects that will lead to enhanced online access,” announced Records Archivist Catheryne Popovitch, I.S.H.R.A.B. Coordinator at the Illinois State Archives.  “These projects may include creating online finding aids, digitizing records and placing the digital content online, making an inventory of records or properly storing the records with the goal of preparing them for future online access, or placing information about the records on a blog, wiki page or Facebook.”

The minimum grant request is $500 and the maximum request is $5,000.  All grants require a one-to-one 9$1 for $1) in-kind and/or cash match.  The application period began on Monday, January 29, 2018 and ends on Friday, March 9, 2018.  All grant projects will run for one year, beginning Sunday, July 1, 2018.  The grant guidelines which includes the application form is available online at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/ard151.pdf or one may request the guidelines be mailed to one.  The application must be printed out, filled out, and mailed.  It cannot be submitted online.

The Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board is made up of representatives from different archives, museums, universities, and libraries from around the state and seeks to facilitate cooperation among historical records depositories and other information agencies within Illinois.  The Illinois State Archives coordinates I.S.H.R.A.B.
